As you know, Henry Coe Backcountry needed to be cancelled due to poor road conditions due to all of the recent rain.
But instead of throwing in the towel, we just moved to the west side of
Henry Coe. Coe is an amazing place with a huge variety of
destinations. We hiked from the Hunting Hollow Entrance and spent the
night at Red Fern Pond. It was a beautiful place to camp and the pond
allowed for some fishing. Steven caught a couple of small mouth bass
that he then released. The second day we hiked back to the parking lot
via a different trail. In total we hiked just under 11 miles and
climbed somewhere in the neighborhood of 3000 feet. All of the scouts
did great! Congratulations to Matthew on completing his first backpack
trip. Overall an awesome trip!
The cost of this trip was lower than the Backcountry Weekend. So all
scouts that attended will be receiving a $10 credit on their account.
